History of Valldaro Camping & Bungalows
Valldaro Camping & Bungalows was founded as a family project more than 50 years ago on the Costa Brava, growing throughout the 1960s and consolidating itself as an innovative campsite committed to the environment right up to today. Would you like to get to know us a little better?
1963: The beginning of Valldaro Camping
Valldaro Camping was created in 1963 by Ramón Mestres together with his wife Rosa Brugada, the parents of the current owners (the Mestres Brugada siblings, Marina, Ramón, Gloria and Núria), who carry on the management of the family business. Back then, Mr Mestres was a food distribution entrepreneur who ran a major food chain. His entrepreneurial and commercial spirit launched him into the adventure of creating a Campsite between Castillo de Aro and Playa de Aro.
At the beginning it was made up of a few ploughed fields, mostly vineyards and olive groves which through determination, effort and success, gradually expanded over time to become the 18 hectares it is today.
The 1960s: The expansion of tourism along the Costa Brava
In the 1960s, together with a small group of campsite business owners, partnerships were formed and their establishments started being promoted like never before. They sold sun, beaches, and local charm. The peseta was devalued at the beginning of the season and along came the tourists. This generation of entrepreneurs learnt the campsite trade on the job, through the experience they received from their guests.
The 2000s: The challenge of sustainability
Mr Mestres and his family have focused their management on ensuring the continuous and innovative improvement of their services and facilities. This has brought the campsite international recognition throughout its history and it is currently one of the most renowned campsites in Europe. Another challenge which it has successfully overcome since 2000 is its ecological management and the application of an environmental management system endorsed by the EMAS and by ISO 14001 certifications.
Today’s Valldaro Camping & Bungalows
Valldaro Camping now has 1,200 pitches, of which 200 have accommodation units which are available to rent. It also has two large recreational areas with five swimming pools, a hydromassage pool with a spa, a football pitch, sports courts, a playground, two bar-restaurants, two supermarkets, a mini golf course with a snack bar, paddle and tennis courts, a mini club, Wi-Fi service and entertainment for children and adults alike.
